OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH)--In a Facebook post, Mayor David Holt said that "we all need to increase our level of individual precaution" as coronavirus cases around the Oklahoma City area climb.
Holt released a chart showing the story of the virus from the beginning.
Holt announced that 107 people in the OKC metro area have died from the coronavirus.
Holt said a reason for the climb in cases could be that people just aren't taking the same level of care towards the virus.
"In conversations with our local public health officials, I have asked if there is any specific reason for the climb," Holt said in his Facebook post. "I wish I could tell you that there was a certain activity or a certain location that was contributing to the increase, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. At present, as the epidemiologists trace the cases, there is no unifying explanation. We are left with the presumption that, generally, we’re just not taking the same level of care."
Holt urged people to wash their hands, keep their distance, and wear masks in public to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
"We need to talk about COVID-19," Holt said.
"The chart above tells our city’s pandemic story from the beginning. An exponentially growing outbreak was tamed when our city collectively took action. The curve was flattened.
Even still, 107 people in the OKC metro have died from the virus, and we send our deepest condolences to their families. As bad as that is, we have avoided the worst-case scenarios seen in many other cities."
