AOC has come up with a groundbreaking plan to save the United States Postal Service.

Oo!oo!oo! I got a idea!
First of all, why is she discussing this issue? Because as you’ve no doubt been reading for the past few days, the Marxist Left is trying to convince the American people that Trump is trying to cripple the USPS so that he can steal the election.

As usual, what the Left accuses the Right of is in reality what the Left is guilty of. The Left knows that THE ONLY WAY they can win this election is by cheating. A huge part of their plan is to flood the country with millions of mail-in ballots that can then be used to manipulate the vote count.
It is true that Trump has appointed a new Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, and has tasked him to bring the USPS into the 21st century.

The Postal Service goes into the red billions of dollars annually. Yes billions. Last year’s loss was $9 billion.
Part of the problem is that postal workers are unionized and the dead wood cannot be fired. They have good paying jobs with great benefits and outstanding retirement plans.
For many of them, it is their second civil service job, and they will receive two full pensions. That part doesn’t upset me, it is allowed so why not take advantage of it. Especially if the are retired military, LEO, etc.
Some USPS employees take their sweet time waiting on the public and are not customer service oriented. Others lollygag with the intention of working overtime hours and raking in the dough. That’s something that the Trump administration wants to end.

That having been said, there are a lot of hard-working conscientious postal employees. I admire the mail carriers that are out there every day, no matter what.
So part of the Democrat narrative around this issue is that they need to “save the USPS from Trump”. In fact, the postal workers union has just endorsed Biden.

Hence, AOC’s plan to save those union government jobs. And her plan is a doozy.

AOC proposes that progressives do their part by…being pen pals. Yup, find another fellow Marxist and write letters back and forth. Real letters. Paper, pens, envelopes. And save the USPS one 55¢ stamp at a time.

The socialist representative, who has been the face of social media and embracing technology in a new era of governance, is proposing to prop up the post office via a “progressive pen pal program.”
“I have been thinking about ways to help you help the post office,” she said during a Sunday Instagram chat.
“So one of the best ways to support the post office is to buy stamps,” Ocasio-Cortez said, adding:
What do you all think — would you guys be down and excited if I set up a national progressive pen pal program.”
Forget all that social media and technology. Go back to the quaint time, the 1960’s, when schools organized clubs and connected kids to a pen pal across the country.
It was fine for the 1960’s, but it won’t work nowadays, especially with people Cortez’s age or younger. Many younger people have no clue how to actually write. The schools don’t even teach penmanship anymore. Young people went from email to texting to messaging. They went from using tiny keyboards a form of shorthand (OMG my bff!) to using speech to text apps. Spell check usually corrects misspelling if they do still use a virtual keyboard.
To make up last year’s $9 million shortfall, Ocasio-Cortez’s pen pal proposal would have to generate an additional 16.3 billion new pieces of mail. That amounts to about 49 pen pal letters per American a year.
Sorry AOC, I just don’t see the USPS being saved by penpals. Now maybe if customers could buy drinks at the Post Office while waiting in line. That’s more up your alley Alex.
