The left is relentless. They never give up, they never back down. That is the strength of the Democrat party, and, conversely, the weakness of the Republican party.
A large part of the GOP grovels, simpers, kisses butt and surrenders to Democrats. They try to convince us that this is a more noble way.
In keeping with their characterstic agressive ways, the Democrats will not quit going after President Trump. Their consuming hatred continues to burn hot.
A top Democratic congressman filed a lawsuit in federal court against former President Donald Trump on Tuesday over Trump’s alleged role in the deadly violence at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
Democrat Rep. Bennie Thompson, from Mississippi and the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, has filed a lawsuit to pin the Capitol riot on Donald Trump.
Also named as co-defendants are Rudy Giuliani, Proud Boys, and Oath Keepers.
The claim in the lawsuit is that “Trump and his co-defendants ‘plotted, coordinated, and executed a common plan to prevent Congress from discharging its official duties in certifying the results of the presidential election.’ “
Thompson is using, as the basis of his lawsuit, the the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871. The Act, according to the wording included in the lawsuit,
“was intended to protect against conspiracies, through violence and intimidation, that sought to prevent Members of Congress from discharging their official duties. The statute was enacted in response to violence and intimidation in which the Ku Klux Klan and other organizations were engaged during that time period.”
The suit also states:
“The carefully orchestrated series of events that unfolded at the Save America rally and the storming of the Capitol was no accident or coincidence,” the suit says. “It was the intended and foreseeable culmination of a carefully coordinated campaign to interfere with the legal process required to confirm the tally of votes cast in the Electoral College.”
In a statement, Thompson said, “While the majority of Republicans in the Senate abdicated their responsibility to hold the President accountable, we must hold him accountable for the insurrection that he so blatantly planned. Failure to do so will only invite this type of authoritarianism for the anti-democratic forces on the far right that are so intent on destroying our country.”
Democratic Representatives Hank Johnson and Bonnie Watson Coleman will also join the litigation as plaintiffs, according to the NAACP.
A statement from the NAACP reads, in part, “the insurrection was the culmination of a carefully orchestrated, months-long plan to destroy democracy, to block the results of a fair and democratic election, and to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of African-American voters who cast valid ballots.”
In a sign of things to come, a Newsweek headline reads, “Former President Donald Trump was hit on Tuesday with his first lawsuit in connection with the Capitol riot on January 6.”
The lawsuit was perhaps partially inspired by none other than Mitch McConnell, whose quote is cited in the suit.
“President Trump is still liable for everything he did while he’s in office, as an ordinary citizen, unless the statute of limitations has run,” McConnell said.
“He didn’t get away with anything — yet, yet,” he added. “We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation, and former presidents are not immune from being held accountable by either one.”
Nice going China Mitch. Glad to see you’re in lockstep with your Communist masters and your hateful fellow Uniparty members.
