Back in March, Joe Biden informed the 82nd Airborne they were about to be deployed in Ukraine. The White House had to walk that back and assured that there would never be any boots on the ground in Ukraine or U.S. Troops involved the war in any way. Fast forward to today and it’s reported that there are U.S. troops in Ukraine and an Army Airborne unit is training on the border to fight the Russians.
Here’s a story from NBC that seems like it should be a way bigger news story:
American military personnel are now in Ukraine to help keep track of the billions of dollars’ worth of weapons and equipment the United States has sent since the start of the Russian invasion, a senior U.S. defense official and senior U.S. military official said.
Led by Brig. Gen. Garrick Harmon, the U.S. defense attaché to Ukraine, the inspections have already begun with the help of the Office of Defense Cooperation personnel who have returned to the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, the officials said.
“There have been several of these inspections,” according to the senior defense official, who declined to give details on the locations of the on-site inspections.
If that’s the way NBC is reporting it, you can bet the reality is much worse. They say these U.S. Troops are merely inspecting weapons so that probably means American military personnel are training Ukrainians on how to use the systems.
Either way it means there are American boots on the ground in Ukraine and that’s sure to provoke Vladimir Putin who has been clear that he sees any NATO military intervention as a declaration of war. And of course, he’s been threatening to use nuclear weapons in such an event.
NBC wasn’t able to pin down the numbers of U.S. Troops in Ukraine but there’s an even more important stat they should have been chasing: How many American soldiers have been killed in Ukraine? That’s a fair question given the recent Russian missile offensive. If our Troops are with the Ukraine military and the weapons we gave them, chances are they have been attacked.
Things get more f*cked up when you consider this other ignored news item from CBS:
The U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division has been deployed to Europe for the first time in almost 80 years amid soaring tension between Russia and the American-led NATO military alliance. The light infantry unit, nicknamed the “Screaming Eagles,” is trained to deploy on any battlefield in the world within hours, ready to fight.
CBS News joined the division’s Deputy Commander, Brigadier General John Lubas, and Colonel Edwin Matthaidess, Commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, on a Black Hawk helicopter for the hour-long ride to the very edge of NATO territory — only around three miles from Romania’s border with Ukraine.
Ok, so we have troops in Ukraine as well as soldiers training on the border, ready to fight. Not only is Joe Biden trying to provoke a Russian attack, he wants to trigger a war. And a nuclear war at that.
We shouldn’t be giving Ukraine billions of dollars we don’t have but the idea that American soldiers are being put in jeopardy and maybe even dying is too much. Let Ukraine fight their own war.
