Councilmember Alexandra Scott has proposed a $4.5 million slash to the Norman Police Department's budget.
Some argue those funds should be allocated to other community needs, while others say taking the money would do more harm than good.
As of 12 p.m. Tuesday, the council meeting was still ongoing and no decision has been made on defunding the police department.
