It wouldn’t be Martin Luther King Jr. Day without some liberal insanity. Sonny Hostin, co-host on The View, has come up with a rule that Republicans, who won a war to free the slaves and passed the Civil Rights Act, are not allowed to quote MLK. Democrats, the party who owned slaves, segregated the South, formed the KKK, and filibustered the Civil Rights Act however may freely quote him.
On today’s The View, Sonny Hostin was asked how MLK’s message of peace can “help the mess in the country right now.” Not surprising, her answer was unhinged.
First she tried to say that Colin Kaepernick was “cancelled because he stood up,” which is the complete opposite of what actually happened. Then she suggested “we are still suffering from” the evils of the Vietnam War because she was just throwing things out to make a racial grievance word salad.
Hostin misidentified Kamala Harris as “Southeast Asian” and then characterized the Capitol protests as a white supremacy insurgency.
“We saw that there are people just like Dr. King said that they’d much rather have white supremacy rather than this multi-racial democracy that he wished for,” said Hostin.
That’s not an actual MLK quote and speaking of MLK quotes…
“I saw today, unbelievably in my view, Ted Cruz, Kayliegh McEnany, Ronna McDaniels, Melania Trump, quoting Dr. King. Tweeting Dr. King,” Hostin said angrily.
Now wait for it:
“Those are the same people that were like Melania Trump with this birther lie. Ted Cruz with challenging the Electoral College. Kayleigh McEnany, just over and over again with her propaganda. How dare they!? How dare they try to quote Dr. King on the celebration of his birthday when they enabled a racist president, causing this insurrection and attack on our democracy?” Hostin screeched.
There’s a lot to unpack here, but when did Melania Trump have anything to do with questioning Obama’s status as a natural-born American citizen? The answer is, Hostin made this up just like all the other lies she told.
Now on to her bullshit: Martin Luther King was a registered Republican. He was a registered Republican because that is the party who freed the slaves and ended segregation. He wasn’t a democrat because in the South, where he was from, the democrats were the ones behind the Jim Crow laws that he sought to overturn. He wasn’t a democrat because that is the party that owned the slaves and split from the Union to preserve the institution of slavery. He wasn’t a democrat because that is the party who formed the KKK as a paramilitary enforcement arm of the segregation they put in place.
While we are calling out Hostin’s BS, Ted Cruz has Constitutional authority to challenge the Electoral College vote. Let’s not forget that democrats James McGovern, Pramila Jayapal, Barbara Lee, Shelia Jackson Lee, Raul Grijalva, Jamie Raskin, and Maxine Waters, many of whom are not white, challenged the Electoral College vote in the 2016 presidential election.
This must be one of those things that isn’t racist when democrats do it. Kind of like slavery, segregation, and the KKK. The only difference is, Republicans didn’t do any of that shit, they just put an end to it. Based on this, Sonny Hostin says Republicans are not allowed to quote MLK.
